The Zone of Interest

The first couple of minutes, which is just purely sound, helps you focus on what is to come... 'what is this sound? Why am I hearing it? …ummm perhaps I really do not want to know what that sound is…'

When considering seeing this film you will hesitate - 'do I watch it or not?'

The Zone of Interest is an important piece and has been rightly awarded for its contribution to the industry and its craftmanship in sound with two Oscar wins in March including Best International Feature.

It's subtle but powerful. Using sound rather than graphics to convey meaning and prod your thoughts. For a generation going into a time without those who lived through the Holocaust it's a tough but significant history lesson (for me included). Horrific atrocities are unfortunately still happening today, and this movie holds up a mirror, challenging us by asking 'am I complacent? am I complicit?'

Perhaps by being brave and watching this film we will hear the intent of the Director, its truth and its warning. It can create discussion among communities like what more do we still desperately need to learn from our past.

The Zone of Interest is a test, but I believe it will reward all who choose to face it.

Now Showing until 10 April!
