Classifications

Movies in Australia are classified using one of five classification icons, plus additional consumer advice.

This information provides a guide to determine the suitability of certain movies to audiences, and is particularly useful for parents when selecting movies appropriate for all ages of members of their family.

Movies that are rated MA 15+ or R 18+ are legally restricted to persons over 15 and 18 years respectively. It is a legal requirement that cinemas do not permit entry to persons under these ages. Photo ID may be required to purchase tickets for an MA 15+ or R 18+ movie.

G
G - General
Suitable for all audiences. G rated movies are suitable for all ages, and often are targeted towards families with young children.
PG
PG - Parental guidance recommended
Parental guidance is recommended for persons under 15 years of age. PG movies are suited to families with older children, as some scenes may frighten younger children. Themes of PG movies may start to get more adult, yet the movie's content remains family-friendly.
M
M - Recommended for mature audiences
Some content in M rated movies may not be suitable for audiences under 15 years of age. There are no restrictions on audience members to an M rated movie, however it is advised that parents or guardians approve of the movie prior to purchasing tickets.
MA 15+
MA 15+ - Not suitable for people under 15. Under 15s must be accompanies by a parent or adult guardian
MA 15+ rated movies are restricted to persons over 15 years of age. Photo ID may be required to purchase tickets to an MA 15+ rated movie. Content in MA 15+ movies is of adult nature, and may include strong violence and adult language. Entry is permitted to persons under 15 years when accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.
R 18+
R 18+ - Restricted to 18 and over
R 18+ rated movies are restricted to adults over 18 years of age. Photo ID may be required to purchase tickets to an R 18+ rated movie. Content is adult in nature, and is not suitable for children or teenagers under 18 years of age.
CTC
CTC - Check the classification closer to the release date
Movies that have not yet been classified are marked as "CTC" or "Check the Classification". New release movies sometimes may not be classified until only a few days prior to their release. Contact the Box Office if you have any enquires regarding CTC movies.

Movies that are marked as "Coming Soon" may not have their classification information available until closer to the movie's release date, sometimes only a few days prior to the movie's release date.
