BIRTHRIGHT, an Australian black comedy

Gawler Cinema is bringing one of Eloise’s favourite films from the 2025 Adelaide Film Festival, the Australian film BIRTHRIGHT really stands out.

I feel like this film accurately depicts current Australian culture, yes laughing hard at it with its wicked black comedic style but also a truthful reflection on the disparity between generations right now, it is putting us into classes.

What will it mean when our kids grow up and can’t afford to buy their own homes? What will it be like having them living at home for much longer than ever before?

How can we set up our children for success rather than treating them like failures because it just won’t be possible to accomplish the once touted “Australian Dream” of owning a home with 2.5 kids.

This film at times can be quite full on but I highly recommend giving it a go as it highlights a really important subject in Australian society today.
