Why that Movie??

Hi everyone, Eloise here.

As the Curator of films at Gawler Cinema, I get the exciting job of choosing the movies we show. I take this role pretty seriously and I research tirelessly to provide our patrons with a new film each week. You see not only do I want to draw in patrons, I am also wanting to create a space for sharing stories that are meaningful and important.

My passion for film has always included the usual love of comedy, mind benders and action but I also believe it is an important avenue to share truth and life. I see film as a form of art, but as with other forms of art and media it is also an opportunity to share a message. It could be a story that highlights something of importance from our past that reveals a truth we need to better navigate our future. It could be a difficult subject matter that makes us question ourselves and what we stand for. Each film has been created with a certain intent, but this is not always overt. Watching a film with others provides a common experience by which we can connect relationally. Having open discussions around this and listening to the thoughts and perspectives of others grows a shared understanding. Cinema has the ability to capture not only people’s imaginations but also provides a platform for conversation. A cultural critique if you will. A forum for personal development and growth.

So when you see the titles of upcoming films here at Gawler, know they have all been thoughtfully considered both for your enjoyment and your discernment.
